Davis-Standard LLC is moving manufacturing work out of the Egan blown and cast film factory in Bridgewater, N.J., to the Davis-Standard’s Black Clawson plant in Fulton, N.Y.
Davis-Standard announced the news Aug. 19. It is part of a drive to create manufacturing efficiencies, company officials said.
The relocation covers only manufacturing. The New Jersey location will continue to house engineering, project management and aftermarket service operations.
Mike Bontempo, vice president of human resources at Davis-Standard, said there are 20 to 25 manufacturing jobs in Bridgewater. They have been given the opportunity to relocate to Fulton, he said. Fulton is located in upstate New York north of Syracuse.
Pawcatuck, Conn.-based Davis-Standard bought the Egan Machinery Division of John Brown Inc. Egan was started in 1946 when Frank Egan ran the business out of his house. The company pioneered some developments in extrusion and became a major force in blown film for the converting equipment industry.
Davis-Standard is owned by Canadian private equity firm Onex Corp.
Black Clawson was purchased in 2003 by Hamilton Robinson Capital Partners, a financial group. Three years later, Hamilton Robinson backed a management group that bought Davis-Standard, bringing Davis and Black Clawson under the same ownership.
Onex bought Davis-Standard from Hamilton Robinson in late 2012.
Allen Lee, Davis-Standard’s vice president of global operations, said Davis-Standard has the “largest, most focused global manufacturing footprint in the industry.”
